melatonin and Hypotension, Orthostatic

melatonin has been researched along with Hypotension, Orthostatic in 3 studies

Hypotension, Orthostatic: A significant drop in BLOOD PRESSURE after assuming a standing position. Orthostatic hypotension is a finding, and defined as a 20-mm Hg decrease in systolic pressure or a 10-mm Hg decrease in diastolic pressure 3 minutes after the person has risen from supine to standing. Symptoms generally include DIZZINESS, blurred vision, and SYNCOPE.

"Melatonin concentration was 14 +/- 11 pg ml(-1) before ingestion and was significantly increased at each time point (peaking at 75 min; 1830 +/- 848 pg ml(-1))."2.71Melatonin attenuates the sympathetic nerve responses to orthostatic stress in humans. ( Ray, CA, 2003)
"Two patients with sympathotonic orthostatic hypotension excreted greater amounts of 6-hydroxymelatonin than any of the control subjects."1.26Urinary 6-hydroxymelatonin excretion in patients with orthostatic hypotension. ( Kopin, IJ; Markey, SP; Polinsky, RJ; Tetsuo, M, 1981)
