mefenamic acid and Chronic Kidney Failure

mefenamic acid has been researched along with Chronic Kidney Failure in 5 studies

Mefenamic Acid: A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase.
mefenamic acid : An aminobenzoic acid that is anthranilic acid in which one of the hydrogens attached to the nitrogen is replaced by a 2,3-dimethylphenyl group. Although classed as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, its anti-inflammatory properties are considered to be minor. It is used to relieve mild to moderate pain, including headaches, dental pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Non-oliguric renal failure developed in six elderly women who had been prescribed 1--2 g of mefenamic acid daily for 2--6 weeks for the relief of musculoskeletal pain."3.66Mefenamic acid nephropathy. ( Dlugolecka, M; Ford, MJ; Prescott, LF; Robertson, CE; Van Someren, V, 1980)
" The study suggests that adjustment of mefenamic acid dosage is not necessary in patients undergoing hemodialysis and that hemodialysis is of minimal value in the management of mefenamate overdose."1.26Hemodialysis of mefenamic acid in uremic patients. ( Lee, CS; Marbury, TC; Wang, LH, 1980)
