mechlorethamine and Burkitt Lymphoma

mechlorethamine has been researched along with Burkitt Lymphoma in 24 studies

nitrogen mustard : Compounds having two beta-haloalkyl groups bound to a nitrogen atom, as in (X-CH2-CH2)2NR.

Burkitt Lymphoma: A form of undifferentiated malignant LYMPHOMA usually found in central Africa, but also reported in other parts of the world. It is commonly manifested as a large osteolytic lesion in the jaw or as an abdominal mass. B-cell antigens are expressed on the immature cells that make up the tumor in virtually all cases of Burkitt lymphoma. The Epstein-Barr virus (HERPESVIRUS 4, HUMAN) has been isolated from Burkitt lymphoma cases in Africa and it is implicated as the causative agent in these cases; however, most non-African cases are EBV-negative.

( Grunicke, H; Hofmann, J; Jackman, J; Kohn, KW; O'Connor, PM; Schubert, C; Ueberall, F, 1994)
"We surveyed 11 Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines for chemosensitivity to nitrogen mustard (HN2) in order to determine whether any simple correlates to cytotoxic response might be revealed."1.28Relationship between DNA cross-links, cell cycle, and apoptosis in Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines differing in sensitivity to nitrogen mustard. ( Bohr, VA; Kohn, KW; Magrath, I; O'Connor, PM; Sarang, M; Wassermann, K, 1991)

( Boyce, RA; Hertzberg, RP; Mattern, MR; Schein, PS; Tan, KB, 1987)
"A human Burkitt lymphoma cell line, Raji-HN2, made 10-fold more resistant to nitrogen mustard (HN2) than the parental Raji cell line, exhibited the following characteristics when compared to the parental Raji cells: (i) decreased HN2-induced DNA interstrand crosslinking; (ii) increased (3-fold) DNA topoisomerase II [DNA topoisomerase (ATP-hydrolyzing), EC 5."1.27Elevated DNA topoisomerase II activity in nitrogen mustard-resistant human cells.
