mebendazole and Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

mebendazole has been researched along with Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 in 3 studies

Mebendazole: A benzimidazole that acts by interfering with CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM and inhibiting polymerization of MICROTUBULES.
mebendazole : A carbamate ester that is methyl 1H-benzimidazol-2-ylcarbamate substituted by a benzoyl group at position 5.

Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2: A subclass of DIABETES MELLITUS that is not INSULIN-responsive or dependent (NIDDM). It is characterized initially by INSULIN RESISTANCE and HYPERINSULINEMIA; and eventually by GLUCOSE INTOLERANCE; HYPERGLYCEMIA; and overt diabetes. Type II diabetes mellitus is no longer considered a disease exclusively found in adults. Patients seldom develop KETOSIS but often exhibit OBESITY.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"After the observation of decreasing insulin resistance in a diabetic patient during treatment with mebendazole for nematosis, we investigated the effect of mebendazole on metabolic control in six Type 1 (insulin-dependent) and six Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetic patients, eight of whom were chronically resistant to conventional treatment."3.67Improvement of metabolic control in diabetic patients during mebendazole administration: preliminary studies.
