Topical aloe vera for the treatment of cetuximab-related acneiform rash in colorectal cancer: A case report.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Cetuximab is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor which provides survival benefit when combined with chemotherapy in RAS wild type metastatic colorectal cancer. Cutaneous toxicities associated with cetuximab have a significant impact on patient quality of life, treatment continuation and healthcare resource utilization.. A 60-year-old male patient presented with fatigue, weight loss and abdominal pain. Two closely located malignant polypoid lesions were detected in the sigmoid colon, and pathological examination revealed colonic adenocarcinoma.. The most common and earliest skin toxicity is acneiform rash which affects 60 to 80% of the patients. In this case, cetuximab-related severe acneiform rash was effectively treated by topical aloe vera. Topical aloe vera may be used in the management of cetuximab-related cutaneous toxicities without any side effect. Chemotherapy-induced suppression to adenoma or complete suppression of the primary in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer: report of four cases.
Although modern chemotherapy of stage IV advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) has impressively improved overall survival, the response of the primary tumor has not been studied because surgical resection of the primary continues to be the standard procedure in stage IV CRC.. Long-term follow-up of the primary in patients with stage IV CRC under chemotherapy.. Here we report on the histological changes in the primary tumor in four patients suffering from stage IV CRC. Systemic chemotherapy was started immediately after endoscopic tumor debulking in three cases. In one case no endoscopic intervention was performed before chemotherapy. Neither macroscopic nor histological evidence for malignant tumor growth was found at the former site of the primary after 6, 23, 26 or 48 months, respectively. Two patients had a complete suppression of the primary, two patients had an adenoma at the former site of the primary. To date, three patients have died because of progression of liver metastases and one patient is still alive with no signs of tumor growth.. The four cases illustrate that today's chemotherapy may effectively induces suppression of the primary in CRC. The development of CRC may follow different pathways. [Hypertrichosis lanuginosa acquisita in ulcerative colitis with colon cancer].
Hypertrichosis lanuginosa acquisita is regarded as an obligatory cutaneous paraneoplasm and is defined as the sudden and excessive appearance of lanugo hairs on the entire integument associated with malignant neoplasm of internal organs. We observed such a case of hypertrichosis in a 30-year-old man with a long history of ulcerative colitis who developed carcinoma of the caecum with lymph node metastasis.
