Ketorolac: A pyrrolizine carboxylic acid derivative structurally related to INDOMETHACIN. It is an NSAID and is used principally for its analgesic activity. (From Martindale The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 31st ed)
ketorolac : A racemate comprising equimolar amounts of (R)-(+)- and (S)-(-)-5-benzoyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizine-1-carboxylic acid. While only the (S)-(-) enantiomer is a COX1 and COX2 inhibitor, the (R)-(+) enantiomer exhibits potent analgesic activity. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, ketorolac is mainly used (generally as the tromethamine salt) for its potent analgesic properties in the short-term management of post-operative pain, and in eye drops to relieve the ocular itching associated with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. It was withdrawn from the market in many countries in 1993 following association with haemorrhage and renal failure.
5-benzoyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizine-1-carboxylic acid : A member of the class of pyrrolizines that is 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizine which is substituted at positions 1 and 5 by carboxy and benzoyl groups, respectively.
Hip Fractures: Fractures of the FEMUR HEAD; the FEMUR NECK; (FEMORAL NECK FRACTURES); the trochanters; or the inter- or subtrochanteric region. Excludes fractures of the acetabulum and fractures of the femoral shaft below the subtrochanteric region (FEMORAL FRACTURES).

Patients will be monitored every 15 minutes in the recovery room and every 4 hours for the first two post-operative days by nursing personnel for medication side effects related to ropivacaine toxicity including blurred vision, hearing problems, transient peripheral paralysis, dizziness, convulsion, uncontrolled muscle contraction, hypotension, bradycardia, and new onset arrhythmia. Parenteral and oral narcotic agents will be utilized by patients for post-operative pain control per the standard of care. No alterations in narcotic prescription behavior will be observed for this study. (NCT02793947)

"Patients will describe their current level of comfort on a 10 point scale while at rest. Zero corresponds to no pain and ten corresponds to the most extreme possible pain. Visual analog scores will be collected by nursing staff who are blinded to the treatment allocation." (NCT02793947)
