indomethacin and Leishmaniasis, American

indomethacin has been researched along with Leishmaniasis, American in 6 studies

Indomethacin: A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) that inhibits CYCLOOXYGENASE, which is necessary for the formation of PROSTAGLANDINS and other AUTACOIDS. It also inhibits the motility of POLYMORPHONUCLEAR LEUKOCYTES.
indometacin : A member of the class of indole-3-acetic acids that is indole-3-acetic acid in which the indole ring is substituted at positions 1, 2 and 5 by p-chlorobenzoyl, methyl, and methoxy groups, respectively. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal and joint disorders including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis and tendinitis.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Cutaneous leishmaniasis is still one of the health problems in Iran and in the region."1.35Evaluation of anti-leishmanial activity by induction of nitric oxide and inhibition of prostaglandin in Balb/c mice infected with Leishmania major. ( Arjmand, M; Farahmand, M; Ghasemi, F; Hajihosseini, R; Nahrevanian, H, 2009)
"Mice treated with indomethacin are responsive to treatment with exogenous IL-12 through at least the first 2 weeks of infection and, unlike control mice treated with IL-12, develop an enhanced Th1-type response associated with increased enhanced resistance to infection."1.31Combined treatment with interleukin-12 and indomethacin promotes increased resistance in BALB/c mice with established Leishmania major infections. ( Farrell, JP; Li, J; Padigel, UM; Scott, P, 2002)
