indomethacin and Cancer of Gastrointestinal Tract

indomethacin has been researched along with Cancer of Gastrointestinal Tract in 10 studies

Indomethacin: A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) that inhibits CYCLOOXYGENASE, which is necessary for the formation of PROSTAGLANDINS and other AUTACOIDS. It also inhibits the motility of POLYMORPHONUCLEAR LEUKOCYTES.
indometacin : A member of the class of indole-3-acetic acids that is indole-3-acetic acid in which the indole ring is substituted at positions 1, 2 and 5 by p-chlorobenzoyl, methyl, and methoxy groups, respectively. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal and joint disorders including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis and tendinitis.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Unselected cancer patients (n = 108) who experienced progressive cachexia were randomized to receive either anti-inflammatory treatment alone (indomethacin) or recombinant erythropoietin plus indomethacin to prevent the appearance of disease-induced anemia and thereby protect patients' exercise capacity."5.11Effects of recombinant erythropoietin in palliative treatment of unselected cancer patients. ( Daneryd, P; Fouladiun, M; Hyltander, A; Körner, U; Lindholm, E; Lundholm, K, 2004)
"Indomethacin was given to four patients with hypercalcemia with no effect on serum calcium levels in any cases."1.27Hypercalcemia of cancer in the digestive tract. ( Furuta, S; Monno, S; Nagata, A, 1987)
