imipramine and Alcoholism

imipramine has been researched along with Alcoholism in 42 studies

Imipramine: The prototypical tricyclic antidepressant. It has been used in major depression, dysthymia, bipolar depression, attention-deficit disorders, agoraphobia, and panic disorders. It has less sedative effect than some other members of this therapeutic group.
imipramine : A dibenzoazepine that is 5H-dibenzo[b,f]azepine substituted by a 3-(dimethylamino)propyl group at the nitrogen atom.

Alcoholism: A primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. The disease is often progressive and fatal. It is characterized by impaired control over drinking, preoccupation with the drug alcohol, use of alcohol despite adverse consequences, and distortions in thinking, most notably denial. Each of these symptoms may be continuous or periodic. " In addition, hypericum extracts, as well as standard antidepressants such as the tricyclic, impramine, and the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, fluoxetine, have been reported to be of therapeutic benefit in the treatment of alcoholism, as these compounds may reduce alcohol craving and/or intake in particular subgroups of patients."7.70Comparison of hypericum extracts with imipramine and fluoxetine in animal models of depression and alcoholism. ( de Beun, R; De Vry, J; Jentzsch, KR; Maurel, S; Schreiber, R, 1999)

( Hashimoto, E; Ishikawa, H; Saito, T; Tayama, M; Yamamoto, M, 2015)
"In an animal model of binge drinking that exhibits abstinence-induced behaviors reminiscent of negative affective states, the triple monoamine uptake inhibitor, amitifadine, produced a selective, dose dependent attenuation of binge drinking."1.38Amitifadine, a triple monoamine uptake inhibitor, reduces binge drinking and negative affect in an animal model of co-occurring alcoholism and depression symptomatology. ( Barnhill, JG; Ciraulo, DA; Jaffe, JH, 1988)
" Tricyclic pharmacokinetic parameters, determined from plasma samples over 48 hours, indicated decreased total body clearance, increased elimination half-life, and higher peak plasma levels during disulfiram treatment."1.27Pharmacokinetic interaction of disulfiram and antidepressants.
