hydroxyzine and Rhinitis, Allergic, Nonseasonal

hydroxyzine has been researched along with Rhinitis, Allergic, Nonseasonal in 10 studies

Hydroxyzine: A histamine H1 receptor antagonist that is effective in the treatment of chronic urticaria, dermatitis, and histamine-mediated pruritus. Unlike its major metabolite CETIRIZINE, it does cause drowsiness. It is also effective as an antiemetic, for relief of anxiety and tension, and as a sedative.
hydroxyzine : A N-alkylpiperazine that is piperzine in which the nitrogens atoms are substituted by 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl and (4-chlorophenyl)(phenyl)methyl groups respectively.

"The second-generation H1-receptor antagonists terfenadine, astemizole, loratadine, and cetirizine are important first-line drugs for the relief of symptoms in patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis or chronic urticaria and may eventually supplant the potentially sedating first-generation H1-receptor antagonists in the treatment of these disorders."4.78Recent advances in H1-receptor antagonist treatment. "Cetirizine was well tolerated, and the frequency of somnolence was not significantly greater in patients receiving this drug than in those given placebo."2.67Efficacy and safety of cetirizine therapy in perennial allergic rhinitis.
