hydroxyindoleacetic acid and Neuroblastoma

hydroxyindoleacetic acid has been researched along with Neuroblastoma in 18 studies

(5-hydroxyindol-3-yl)acetic acid : A member of the class of indole-3-acetic acids that is indole-3-acetic acid substituted by a hydroxy group at C-5.

Neuroblastoma: A common neoplasm of early childhood arising from neural crest cells in the sympathetic nervous system, and characterized by diverse clinical behavior, ranging from spontaneous remission to rapid metastatic progression and death. This tumor is the most common intraabdominal malignancy of childhood, but it may also arise from thorax, neck, or rarely occur in the central nervous system. Histologic features include uniform round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei arranged in nests and separated by fibrovascular septa. Neuroblastomas may be associated with the opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome. (From DeVita et al., Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology, 5th ed, pp2099-2101; Curr Opin Oncol 1998 Jan;10(1):43-51)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Urinary vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) are biomarkers for the diagnosis and follow-up of neuroblastoma, whereas urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) is used to assess a carcinoid tumor."3.88Quantification of vanillylmandelic acid, homovanillic acid and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid in urine using a dilute-and-shoot and ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method. ( Centeno, C; Eugster, PJ; Grouzmann, E, 2018)
"The urinary excretion of vanillylmandelic acid (VMA), homovanillic acid (HVA) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) can be increased in the presence of neuroblastic and carcinoid tumors."3.74HPLC-mass spectrometry method for quantitative detection of neuroendocrine tumor markers: vanillylmandelic acid, homovanillic acid and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid. " Consequently, this reaction has long been used to measure tyrosine in tyrosinosis and tyrosinemia, homovanillic acid in neuroblastoma, and 5-hydroxy-3-indoleacetic acid in the carcinoid tumor."3.66The chemical basis and specificity of the nitrosonaphthol reaction. ( Knight, JA; Robertson, G; Wu, JT, 1983)
"Given that carriers of certain Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related PS-1 variants are predisposed to clinical depression and that depression has been historically associated with the mitochondrial enzyme, monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A), we investigated cortical MAO-A function in the AD-related PS-1(M146V) knock-in mouse."1.38Monoamine oxidase-A physically interacts with presenilin-1(M146V) in the mouse cortex.
