To assess the association between Cannabis use and bladder cancer.. A systematic literature review was performed using studies published in electronic databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar. Due to the scarcity of literature on this topic, the search was not limited to a specific design, year of publication, or human studies. The studies were screened by two reviewers in the following steps; first, the studies were discovered according to the predetermined search strategy; second, the unrelated studies and duplicates were eliminated by screening the abstracts, titles, and keywords; third, the full text of relevant and eligible papers were critically appraised and assessed for the risk of bias using the respective tool. The two review authors independently assessed the risk of bias and outcome levels using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for the outcomes in observational studies. Any disagreements were settled by a third party.. The search strategy yielded 39 research articles. After removing 21 duplicates, 18 publications were eligible for title and abstract review. Thirteen studies were found to be irrelevant and subsequently excluded. Only three full-text articles were evaluated and included in the qualitative synthesis.. The role of Cannabis in bladder cancer has been seldom studied. The small number of studies show contradictory findings; potential carcinogenic versus protective effect. The growing interest in Cannabis use after legalization necessitates further investigations with a robust design to assess the long-term effect of Cannabis on bladder cancer.

The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression among health professionals in the three most affected regions in Cameroon.. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional type. Participants were health care professionals working in the three chosen regions of Cameroon. The non_probability convinient sample technique and that of the snowball were valued via a web questionnaire. The non-exhaustive sample size was 292. The diagnosis of anxiety and depression was made by the HAD (Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale).. Le nombre sans cesse croissant de cas confirmés et suspects, la pression dans les soins, l’épuisement des équipements de protection individuelle et le manque de médicaments spécifiques peuvent contribuer à un vécu anxio-dépressif significatif. La présente étude s’est donnée pour ambition d’évaluer la prévalence des symptômes de l’anxiété et de la dépression chez les professionnels de santé dans les trois Régions les plus concernées au Cameroun.. Le choix des trois Régions du Cameroun se justifie non seulement par le fait qu’elles totalisent 95,8 % des cas de coronavirus au pays depuis le début de la pandémie, mais aussi parce qu’elles disposent de plus de la moitié des personnels de santé (56 %). Il s’agit d’une étude transversale, descriptive et analytique. Les participants sont des professionnels de la santé en service dans les Régions du Centre, Littoral et de l’Ouest du Cameroun. La méthode d’échantillonnage non probabiliste de convenance couplée à celle de boule de neige via un web questionnaire a été adoptée. La collecte des données a duré du 5 au 19 avril 2020, intervalle de temps après lequel on n’avait plus eu de répondants. À la fin de cette période, la taille de l’échantillon non exhaustive était de 292 professionnels. Le diagnostic de l’état anxio-dépressive était posé via l’échelle de HAD (Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale). Dans le HAD, chaque réponse cotée évalue de manière semi-quantitative l’intensité du symptôme au cours de la semaine écoulée. Un score total est obtenu ainsi que des scores aux deux sous-échelles : le score maximal est de 42 pour l’échelle globale et de 21 pour chacune des sous-échelles. Le coefficient alpha de Cronbach est de 0,70 pour la dépression et de 0,74 pour l’anxiété. Certains auteurs après plusieurs travaux ont proposé qu’une note inférieure ou égale à 7 indique une absence d’anxiété ou de dépression ; celle comprise entre 8 et 10 suggère une anxiété ou une dépression faible à bénigne ; entre 11 et 14, pour une anxiété ou une dépression modérée ; enfin, une note comprise entre 15 et 21 est révélatrice d’une anxiété sévère. Legislation of cannabis use has been approved in many European and North American countries. Its impact on urological cancers is unclear. This study was conducted to explore the association between cannabis use and the risk of urological cancers.. We identified 151,945 individuals with information on cannabis use in the UK Biobank from 2006 to 2010. Crude and age-standardized incidence ratios of different urological cancers were evaluated in the entire cohort and subgroups. Cox regression was performed for survival analysis.. Previous use of cannabis was a significant protective factor for renal cell carcinoma (HR = 0.61, 95%CI:0.40-0.93, p = 0.021) and prostate cancer (HR = 0.82, 95%CI:0.73-0.93, p = 0.002) in multivariable analysis. The association between previous cannabis use and both renal cell carcinoma and bladder cancer was only observed in females (HR. Previous use of cannabis was associated with a lower risk of bladder cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and prostate cancer. The inverse association between cannabis and both renal cell carcinoma and bladder cancer was only found in females but not in males.

Tobacco smoking is an established risk factor associated with bladder cancer, yet its impact on bladder cancer prognosis is unclear.. To examine associations of use of tobacco (cigarettes, pipes, and cigars), e-cigarettes, and marijuana with risk of recurrence and progression of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and to explore use of smoking cessation interventions.. The Be-Well Study is a prospective cohort study of patients with NMIBC diagnosed from 2015 to 2019 and followed-up for 26.4 months in the Kaiser Permanente Northern and Southern California integrated health care system. Eligibility criteria were age at least 21 years, first NMIBC diagnosis (stages Ta, Tis, or T1), alive, and not in hospice care. Exclusion criteria were previous diagnosis of bladder cancer or other cancer diagnoses within 1 year prior to or concurrent with NMIBC diagnosis. Data were analyzed from April 1 to October 4, 2022.. Use of cigarettes, pipes, cigars, e-cigarettes, and marijuana was reported in the baseline interview. Use of smoking cessation interventions (counseling and medications) was derived from electronic health records.. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs of recurrence and progression of bladder cancer were estimated by multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression.. A total of 1472 patients (mean [SD] age at diagnosis, 70.2 [10.8%] years; 1129 [76.7%] male patients) with NMIBC were enrolled at a mean (SD) of 2.3 (1.3) months after diagnosis, including 874 patients (59.4%) who were former smokers and 111 patients (7.5%) who were current cigarette smokers; 67 patients (13.7%) smoked pipes and/or cigars only, 65 patients (4.4%) used e-cigarettes, 363 patients (24.7%) used marijuana. Longer cigarette smoking duration and more pack-years were associated with higher risk of recurrence in a dose-dependent manner, with the highest risks for patients who had smoked for 40 or more years (HR, 2.36; 95% CI, 1.43-3.91) or 40 or more pack-years (HR, 1.97; 95% CI, 1.32-2.95). There was no association of having ever smoked, being a former or current cigarette smoker, and years since quit smoking with recurrence risk. No associations with pipes, cigars, e-cigarettes, or marijuana were found. Of 102 patients offered a smoking cessation intervention, 57 (53.8%) received an interventions after diagnosis, with female patients more likely than male patients to engage in such interventions (23 of 30 female patients [76.7%] vs 34 of 76 male patients [44.7%]; P = .003).. These findings suggest that longer duration and more pack-years of cigarette smoking were associated with higher risk of NMIBC recurrence. Cigarette smoking remains a critical exposure before and after diagnosis in survivors of NMIBC.
