The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression among health professionals in the three most affected regions in Cameroon.. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional type. Participants were health care professionals working in the three chosen regions of Cameroon. La présente étude s’est donnée pour ambition d’évaluer la prévalence des symptômes de l’anxiété et de la dépression chez les professionnels de santé dans les trois Régions les plus concernées au Cameroun.. Le choix des trois Régions du Cameroun se justifie non seulement par le fait qu’elles totalisent 95,8 % des cas de coronavirus au pays depuis le début de la pandémie, mais aussi parce qu’elles disposent de plus de la moitié des personnels de santé (56 %). Il s’agit d’une étude transversale, descriptive et analytique. Les participants sont des professionnels de la santé en service dans les Régions du Centre, Littoral et de l’Ouest du Cameroun. La méthode d’échantillonnage non probabiliste de convenance couplée à celle de boule de neige via un web questionnaire a été adoptée. La collecte des données a duré du 5 au 19 avril 2020, intervalle de temps après lequel on n’avait plus eu de répondants. À la fin de cette période, la taille de l’échantillon non exhaustive était de 292 professionnels. Le diagnostic de l’état anxio-dépressive était posé via l’échelle de HAD (Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale). Dans le HAD, chaque réponse cotée évalue de manière semi-quantitative l’intensité du symptôme au cours de la semaine écoulée. Un score total est obtenu ainsi que des scores aux deux sous-échelles : le score maximal est de 42 pour l’échelle globale et de 21 pour chacune des sous-échelles. Le coefficient alpha de Cronbach est de 0,70 pour la dépression et de 0,74 pour l’anxiété. Certains auteurs après plusieurs travaux ont proposé qu’une note inférieure ou égale à 7 indique une absence d’anxiété ou de dépression ; celle comprise entre 8 et 10 suggère une anxiété ou une dépression faible à bénigne ; entre 11 et 14, pour une anxiété ou une dépression modérée ; enfin, une note comprise entre 15 et 21 est révélatrice d’une anxiété sévère. To summarize evidence relating cannabis smoking and oral disease and highlight any potential influence of cannabis smoking on clinical care and dental public health.. Using rapid evidence review, a librarian facilitated a systematic search of 5 electronic databases in August and September 2018 and updated it in March 2019, yielding 581 publications. Two researchers screened the documents using pre-established inclusion criteria: article was based on primary or secondary data; cannabis smoking was an exposure; at least 1 cannabis-related oral health outcome was reported; participants were humans; and the article was available in English or French. Data from retained articles were analyzed for themes without meta-analysis.. We synthesized and summarized 23 articles in 2 broad categories: cannabis and oral disease; and cannabis, clinical care and dental public health. Current evidence shows that smoking cannabis is harmful to the health of the periodontium. The association between smoking cannabis and other oral disease (dental caries, soft tissue lesions and oral cancers) is sparse and inconsistent, although studies suggest that cannabis smoking is an underlying risk factor. Cannabis smoking can lead to an altered mental state that can delay dental treatment of the patient. Further, interactions between smoked cannabis and adrenaline-containing local anesthetics can result in life-threatening consequences.. Cannabis smoking is harmful to the periodontium. Further research is needed to fully understand how cannabis smoking affects oral disease and how dental professionals should integrate this knowledge into clinical care and dental public health.

The use of cannabis by adolescents in Switzerland has almost doubled in the past decade. Empirical observations in private dental practices indicate that cannabis users have more carious lesions than those who do not use cannabis. The aim of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that regular cannabis use increases the risk of caries because of hyposalivation or lifestyle. Forty-three regular cannabis users were enrolled in the test group and 42 tobacco smokers were used as a negative control group. All subjects were 18-25 years old. Data were obtained using a standardized questionnaire and a clinical examination. There was no significant difference between groups in decayed and filled surfaces (DFS), saliva flow rate and plaque and gingival indices. The cannabis group had, however, significantly higher DS (decayed surface) values (p = 0.0001) and significantly lower frequencies of daily tooth brushing and dental control visits (p < 0.0001) than the control group. Additionally, the cannabis group reported a significantly higher consumption of sugar-containing beverages than the control group (p = 0.0078). To obtain more objective data relations, the DS values of male cannabis users were also compared with those of Swiss military recruits found in another study. The cannabis users had more caries on smooth surfaces than the military recruits. Although comparison with epidemiological data suggested that the prevalence of caries on smooth surfaces is elevated in cannabis users, DFS data indicated that cannabis users do not have an increased risk of caries. Lifestyle combined with short-term hyposalivation after delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol consumption is the most probable cause of the high prevalence of caries on smooth surfaces in cannabis users. Further studies are needed to investigate the effects of cannabis use on oral health.
