hexetidine and Dental Caries

hexetidine has been researched along with Dental Caries in 3 studies

Hexetidine: A bactericidal and fungicidal antiseptic. It is used as a 0.1% mouthwash for local infections and oral hygiene. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p797)

Dental Caries: Localized destruction of the tooth surface initiated by decalcification of the enamel followed by enzymatic lysis of organic structures and leading to cavity formation. If left unchecked, the cavity may penetrate the enamel and dentin and reach the pulp.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Xerostomia was assessed by questioning participants."1.42Antiseptic mouthwashes could worsen xerostomia in patients taking polypharmacy. ( Chevalier, M; Lamure, J; Pouyssegur-Rougier, V; Precheur, I; Sakarovitch, C, 2015)
"In the case of dental plaque, antiseptic activity is probably not the only relevant parameter: biofilm dissociation is rather more relevant because the dead or living bacteria adhere to the teeth, favouring the establishment of a new active biofilm."1.29Antiseptic activity of some antidental plaque chemicals on Streptococcus mutans biofilms. ( Brisset, L; Carquin, J; Choisy, C; Jacquelin, LF; Le Magrex, E, 1993)
