hexamethonium and Heart Diseases

hexamethonium has been researched along with Heart Diseases in 4 studies

Hexamethonium: A nicotinic cholinergic antagonist often referred to as the prototypical ganglionic blocker. It is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not cross the blood-brain barrier. It has been used for a variety of therapeutic purposes including hypertension but, like the other ganglionic blockers, it has been replaced by more specific drugs for most purposes, although it is widely used a research tool.

Heart Diseases: Pathological conditions involving the HEART including its structural and functional abnormalities.

"Hexamethonium pretreatment induced significantly less QRS widening and QTc lengthening than was seen in group 1 but worsened the bupivacaine effects on bradycardia, atria-His and PR intervals, mean aortic pressure, and first derivative of left ventricular pressure."1.29Mechanisms of the putative cardioprotective effect of hexamethonium in anesthetized dogs given a large dose of bupivacaine.
