guanethidine and Alloxan Diabetes

guanethidine has been researched along with Alloxan Diabetes in 9 studies

Guanethidine: An antihypertensive agent that acts by inhibiting selectively transmission in post-ganglionic adrenergic nerves. It is believed to act mainly by preventing the release of norepinephrine at nerve endings and causes depletion of norepinephrine in peripheral sympathetic nerve terminals as well as in tissues.
guanethidine : A member of the class of guanidines in which one of the hydrogens of the amino group has been replaced by a 2-azocan-1-ylethyl group.
guanethidine sulfate : A organic sulfate salt composed of two molecules of guanethidine and one of sulfuric acid.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Chemical sympathectomy induced by guanethidine (100 mg/kg body weight, for 1 or 2 days) reduced muscle norepinephrine content to negligible levels (less than 5%), decreased plasma epinephrine concentration, and further increased the high rate of protein degradation in muscles from acutely diabetic rats."3.74Chemical sympathectomy further increases muscle protein degradation of acutely diabetic rats. ( Baviera, AM; Kettelhut, IC; Migliorini, RH; Navegantes, LC; Zanon, NM, 2008)
"Guanethidine pretreatment did not block the ability of centrally administered leptin to decrease blood glucose concentrations in diabetic rats."1.35Guanethidine treatment does not block the ability of central leptin administration to decrease blood glucose concentrations in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. ( Huggins, KW; Judd, RL; Wang, J; Wernette, CM; White, BD, 2008)
"The effect of streptozotocin diabetes of 4-week duration on the adrenergic motor transmission and on the nonadrenergic, noncholinergic, inhibitory transmission in the rat anococcygeus was investigated by recording contractile and relaxant activity of isolated muscle preparations taken from diabetic and age-matched control animals."1.28Effect of streptozotocin diabetes on motor and inhibitory transmission in rat anococcygeus. ( Luheshi, GN; Zar, MA, 1992)
