gentamicin and Retinal Detachment

gentamicin has been researched along with Retinal Detachment in 9 studies

Gentamicins: A complex of closely related aminoglycosides obtained from MICROMONOSPORA purpurea and related species. They are broad-spectrum antibiotics, but may cause ear and kidney damage. They act to inhibit PROTEIN BIOSYNTHESIS.

Retinal Detachment: Separation of the inner layers of the retina (neural retina) from the pigment epithelium. Retinal detachment occurs more commonly in men than in women, in eyes with degenerative myopia, in aging and in aphakia. It may occur after an uncomplicated cataract extraction, but it is seen more often if vitreous humor has been lost during surgery. (Dorland, 27th ed; Newell, Ophthalmology: Principles and Concepts, 7th ed, p310-12).

"Vitrectomy, with daunorubicin infusion (1 microg/ml), was performed in 6 eyes with rhegamatogenous retinal detachment and PVR."5.11[Vitrectomy with daunorubicin]. ( Ciechanowski, C; Gebka, A; Iwaszkiewicz-Bilikiewicz, B; Raczyńska, K, 2004)
"Since the introduction of gentamicin (given both as a soaked sponge and as an injection below Tenon's capsule at the end of surgery) no case of early infection either with or without intraocular signs after operation for retinal detachment has occurred in a series of 206 cases comprising 243 operations."3.65Infection following retinal detachment surgery.
