fluorouracil has been researched along with Gliosarcoma in 3 studies
Fluorouracil: A pyrimidine analog that is an antineoplastic antimetabolite. It interferes with DNA synthesis by blocking the THYMIDYLATE SYNTHETASE conversion of deoxyuridylic acid to thymidylic acid.
5-fluorouracil : A nucleobase analogue that is uracil in which the hydrogen at position 5 is replaced by fluorine. It is an antineoplastic agent which acts as an antimetabolite - following conversion to the active deoxynucleotide, it inhibits DNA synthesis (by blocking the conversion of deoxyuridylic acid to thymidylic acid by the cellular enzyme thymidylate synthetase) and so slows tumour growth.
Gliosarcoma: Rare mixed tumors of the brain and rarely the spinal cord which contain malignant neuroectodermal (glial) and mesenchymal components, including spindle-shaped fibrosarcoma cells. These tumors are highly aggressive and present primarily in adults as rapidly expanding mass lesions. They may arise in tissue that has been previously irradiated. "The presence of transfected cytosine deaminase and thymidine kinase genes in 9L gliosarcoma cells reduced cell survival, both in vitro and in vivo, following treatment with the relevant prodrugs; the effects of the two components appeared to be synergistic and related mechanistically to the enhancement of ganciclovir phosphorylation by thymidine kinase following 5-fluorouracil treatment." | 3.70 | Synergistic anticancer effects of ganciclovir/thymidine kinase and 5-fluorocytosine/cytosine deaminase gene therapies.
