[The effect of sermion on the main hemodynamic indices in patients with the initial manifestations of cerebral atherosclerosis].
    Vrachebnoe delo, 1990, Issue:2

It has been found that the drug sermion (nicergoline)--a synthetic ergot alkaloid with alpha-adrenoblocking action--produces a pronounced vasoactive (spasmolytic) effect in the elderly patients suffering of initial atherosclerotic encephalopathy. A course of sermion treatment improves, via its effect on the brain and lower extremity vessels, the flow in most involved vascular regions. High concentrations of the drug after intravenous administration of 4 mg of sermion (nicergoline) result in a rise of the sympathetic vascular tone, high adrenoblocking action.

Topics: Administration, Oral; Aged; Cerebrovascular Circulation; Drug Evaluation; Ergolines; Hemodynamics; Humans; Injections, Intravenous; Intracranial Arteriosclerosis; Middle Aged; Nicergoline; Time Factors

1990
[Sermion treatment of middle-aged and elderly patients with initial atherosclerotic encephalopathy].
    Vrachebnoe delo, 1989, Issue:4

The authors report results of a clinico-physiological study of the efficacy of a vasoactive agent sermion in patients with initial atherosclerotic encephalopathy indicating a positive effect of course treatment with this agent on the main clinical manifestations of the disease, pulse blood filling, bioelectric activity of the brain, psychomotor rate, mental working capacity, mnemonic function. Considering the established age-related differences in the efficacy of the agent, it is expedient to recommend sermion for long-term employment in the elderly. One should be cautious in instituting the drug in persons suffering of raised intraocular pressure.
