edrophonium and Ache

edrophonium has been researched along with Ache in 8 studies

Edrophonium: A rapid-onset, short-acting cholinesterase inhibitor used in cardiac arrhythmias and in the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. It has also been used as an antidote to curare principles.
edrophonium : A quaternary ammonium ion that is N-ethyl-N,N-dimethylanilinium in which one of the meta positions is substituted by a hydroxy group. It is a reversible inhibitor of cholinesterase, with a rapid onset (30-60 seconds after injection) but a short duration of action (5-15 minutes). The chloride salt is used in myasthenia gravis both diagnostically and to distinguish between under- or over-treatment with other anticholinesterases. It has also been used for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade in anaesthesia, and for the management of poisoning due to tetrodotoxin, a neuromuscular blocking toxin found in puffer fish and other marine animals.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Ten patients with anginal symptoms and ergonovine-induced chest pain without coronary artery spasm had esophageal manometry with provocative pharmacologic testing."7.66Provocation of esophageal pain by ergonovine or edrophonium. ( Cohen, S; Goldberg, S; Hirshfeld, JW; London, RL; Ouyang, A; Snape, WJ, 1981)
" In 8 (24%) the pain proved to be related to oesophageal motor disorders unaccompanied by gastro-oesophageal reflux; in 12 (36%) acid reflux contributed to chest pain; but in the remaining 13 (40%) identical chest pain episodes were due to various mechanisms including reflux without motor disorders, motor disorders without reflux, motor disorders without reflux but with positive acid-perfusion test, and acid reflux without motility disorders but with positive edrophonium-stimulation test."3.67The irritable oesophagus--a frequent cause of angina-like pain. ( Ghillebert, G; Janssens, J; Vantrappen, G, 1987)
" The patient's chest discomfort and concomitant esophageal spasm were provoked by intravenous infusion of edrophonium chloride during esophageal manometry."3.67Chest pain associated with mitral valve prolapse. Evidence for esophageal origin. ( Day, FP; Koch, KL; Spears, PF, 1986)
