dimethyl sulfoxide and Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

dimethyl sulfoxide has been researched along with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in 182 studies

Dimethyl Sulfoxide: A highly polar organic liquid, that is used widely as a chemical solvent. Because of its ability to penetrate biological membranes, it is used as a vehicle for topical application of pharmaceuticals. It is also used to protect tissue during CRYOPRESERVATION. Dimethyl sulfoxide shows a range of pharmacological activity including analgesia and anti-inflammation.
dimethyl sulfoxide : A 2-carbon sulfoxide in which the sulfur atom has two methyl substituents.

" When human myeloid leukemia cells are exposed in vitro to a variety of agents (eg, vitamin A or dimethyl sulfoxide) the blasts lose their proliferative potential, the expression of oncogene products is sharply decreased, and after five days the leukemic cells become morphologically mature and functional neutrophils."4.77Leukemic cell maturation. ( Banfic, H; Lalic, H; Lukinovic-Skudar, V; Visnjic, D, 2012)
"Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been used for years as a cryoprotectant agent; it acts by penetrating the cell and binding water molecules and it has been described as harmless for the individual who receives it in limited amounts."2.45Dimethyl sulfoxide-induced toxicity in cord blood stem cell transplantation: report of three cases and review of the literature. ( Ferrero, D; Pagliardi, GL; Pessano, S; Rovera, G, 1983)

( Hall, RE; Leftwich, JA, 1986)
