diethylcarbamazine and Leprosy

diethylcarbamazine has been researched along with Leprosy in 4 studies

Diethylcarbamazine: An anthelmintic used primarily as the citrate in the treatment of filariasis, particularly infestations with Wucheria bancrofti or Loa loa.

Leprosy: A chronic granulomatous infection caused by MYCOBACTERIUM LEPRAE. The granulomatous lesions are manifested in the skin, the mucous membranes, and the peripheral nerves. Two polar or principal types are lepromatous and tuberculoid.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The Mazzotti reaction is a frequent complication in patients with onchocerciasis being treated with diethylcarbamazine (DEC); and more severe manifestations of this reaction may be unacceptable in many patients."3.67Does dexamethasone suppress the Mazzotti reaction in patients with onchocerciasis? ( Connor, DH; Gibson, DW; Pierce, PF; Ribas, JL; Ross, MA; Stingl, P; Straessle, T, 1988)
"Thirty three leprosy patients in reaction were treated with a combination of Metronidazole--Diethyl carbamazine citrate--Chloroquin which was reinforced either with prednisolone and/or Clofazimine in some, depending on the clinical state."3.66Multi-drug treatment for reactions in leprosy.
