dextroamphetamine and Weight Gain

dextroamphetamine has been researched along with Weight Gain in 11 studies

Dextroamphetamine: The d-form of AMPHETAMINE. It is a central nervous system stimulant and a sympathomimetic. It has also been used in the treatment of narcolepsy and of attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity in children. Dextroamphetamine has multiple mechanisms of action including blocking uptake of adrenergics and dopamine, stimulating release of monamines, and inhibiting monoamine oxidase. It is also a drug of abuse and a psychotomimetic.
(S)-amphetamine : A 1-phenylpropan-2-amine that has S configuration.

Weight Gain: Increase in BODY WEIGHT over existing weight.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"To determine if treatment with the sympathomimetic amine dextroamphetamine sulfate, which has been so effective in treating a variety of pain syndromes, including severe pelvic pain and interstitial cystitis in women with the sympathetic neural hyperalgesia edema syndrome would also mitigate pain from fibromyalgia which was resistant to multiple therapies."7.80Marked improvement of pain from long-term fibromyalgia with dextroamphetamine sulfate in a woman who failed to improve with conventional pharmacologic treatment. ( Check, JH; Cohen, R, 2014)
"Dextroamphetamine sulfate was used for weight gain when no other etiologic factor was found."3.81The confounding effect of the development of idiopathic orthostatic edema and thyrotoxcosis on weight fluctuation related to effects on free water clearance in a woman with long-standing surgically induced panhypopituitarism and diabetes insipidus. ( Check, JH; Weidner, J, 2015)

"Dextroamphetamine sulfate was prescribed to a 33-year-old woman with intractable migraine headaches resistant to standard therapy."1.37Evidence that migraine headaches in women may be related to a common defect in the sympathetic nervous system as evidenced by marked improvement following treatment with sympathomimetic amines. ( Check, D; Check, JH; Cohen, R, 2011)
"Ketamine-treated mice showed cell degeneration mainly in the parietal cortex, whereas the Ethanol-High mice showed marked cell degeneration in both the parietal and laterodorsal cortex."1.32Hyperactivity following postnatal NMDA antagonist treatment: reversal by D-amphetamine. ( Archer, T; Fredriksson, A, 2003)
" The present experiments extend these findings by investigating: (a) interactions between isolation rearing and repeated handling/testing on presynaptic DA function in the NAC using in vivo microdialysis: (b) the dose-response curve for the effects of d-amphetamine, and the responses elicited by high potassium, using in vivo microdialysis, and (c) postsynaptic function in isolates as indexed by DA receptor-linked cAMP production."1.30Isolation rearing in rats: pre- and postsynaptic changes in striatal dopaminergic systems. ( Hall, FS; Humby, T; Inglis, W; Kendall, DA; Marsden, CA; Robbins, TW; Wilkinson, LS, 1998)
"After an additional 12 days of treatment, weight gain decreased significantly accompanied by no appetite suppression."1.29Long-term treatment of obese Zucker rats with LY255582 and other appetite suppressants. ( Shaw, WN, 1993)
