dextroamphetamine and Bladder Pain Syndrome

dextroamphetamine has been researched along with Bladder Pain Syndrome in 4 studies

Dextroamphetamine: The d-form of AMPHETAMINE. It is a central nervous system stimulant and a sympathomimetic. It has also been used in the treatment of narcolepsy and of attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity in children. Dextroamphetamine has multiple mechanisms of action including blocking uptake of adrenergics and dopamine, stimulating release of monamines, and inhibiting monoamine oxidase. It is also a drug of abuse and a psychotomimetic.
(S)-amphetamine : A 1-phenylpropan-2-amine that has S configuration.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Dextroamphetamine sulfate 15-mg extended release capsules were given to women with a variety of treatment refractory conditions including, but not limited to, pelvic pain."3.81Sympathomimetic amines are a safe, highly effective therapy for several female chronic disorders that do not respond well to conventional therapy. ( Check, JH, 2015)
"Dextroamphetamine sulfate sustained release capsules up to 30 mg per day were prescribed in women with refractory painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis in six new cases."3.79Sympathomimetic amines effectively control pain for interstitial cystitis that had not responded to other therapies. ( Check, JH; Cohen, G; Cohen, R; Dipietro, J; Steinberg, B, 2013)
"To determine if a very effective therapy for idiopathic orthostatic cyclic edema--dextroamphetamine sulfate--would alleviate symptoms of chonic pelvic pain of bladder origin/interstitial cystitis."3.73A novel highly effective treatment of interstitial cystitis causing chronic pelvic pain of bladder origin: case reports. ( Bonnes, E; Check, JH; Citerone, T; Katsoff, B, 2005)
"Dextroamphetamine sulfate was prescribed to a woman who developed acute lower backache which was attributed to herniated lumbar discs."1.37Sympathetic nervous system disorder of women that leads to pelvic pain and symptoms of interstitial cystitis may be the cause of severe backache and be very responsive to medical therapy rather than surgery despite the presence of herniated discs. ( Check, JH; Cohen, R; Wilson, C, 2011)
