desipramine and Heroin Abuse

desipramine has been researched along with Heroin Abuse in 7 studies

Desipramine: A tricyclic dibenzazepine compound that potentiates neurotransmission. Desipramine selectively blocks reuptake of norepinephrine from the neural synapse, and also appears to impair serotonin transport. This compound also possesses minor anticholinergic activity, through its affinity to muscarinic receptors.
desipramine : A dibenzoazepine consisting of 10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[b,f]azepine substituted on nitrogen with a 3-(methylamino)propyl group.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"This 13-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of desipramine hydrochloride (0 or 150 mg/d) plus buprenorphine hydrochloride (12 mg/d) or methadone hydrochloride (65 mg/d) in 180 opioid-dependent cocaine abusers (124 men, 56 women)."9.09Desipramine in opioid-dependent cocaine abusers maintained on buprenorphine vs methadone. ( Feingold, A; Jatlow, P; Kosten, TR; Oliveto, AH; Schottenfeld, R, 1999)

"Thus, antisocial personality disorder was a poor prognostic factor for treatment retention and continued cocaine abuse, and medication did not improve treatment outcome for the ASP patients, but did for the non-ASP patients."2.67Antisocial personality disorder as a prognostic factor for pharmacotherapy of cocaine dependence.
