dehydroepiandrosterone and Immune System Diseases

dehydroepiandrosterone has been researched along with Immune System Diseases in 4 studies

Dehydroepiandrosterone: A major C19 steroid produced by the ADRENAL CORTEX. It is also produced in small quantities in the TESTIS and the OVARY. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can be converted to TESTOSTERONE; ANDROSTENEDIONE; ESTRADIOL; and ESTRONE. Most of DHEA is sulfated (DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULFATE) before secretion.
dehydroepiandrosterone : An androstanoid that is androst-5-ene substituted by a beta-hydroxy group at position 3 and an oxo group at position 17. It is a naturally occurring steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands.

Immune System Diseases: Disorders caused by abnormal or absent immunologic mechanisms, whether humoral, cell-mediated, or both.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" The author's own findings and the data available in the literature indicate that the androgens dehydroepiandrosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate that are secreted in the reticular area play an important role in ensuring the body's full stable adaptation to stress and simultaneously preventing stress-associated abnormalities, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, immunodefficiency, hypertension, allergies, and cancer."4.80[Dehydroepiandrosterone, reticular area of adrenal cortex and resistance to stress and disease].
