dehydroepiandrosterone and Gonadal Agenesis

dehydroepiandrosterone has been researched along with Gonadal Agenesis in 6 studies

Dehydroepiandrosterone: A major C19 steroid produced by the ADRENAL CORTEX. It is also produced in small quantities in the TESTIS and the OVARY. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can be converted to TESTOSTERONE; ANDROSTENEDIONE; ESTRADIOL; and ESTRONE. Most of DHEA is sulfated (DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULFATE) before secretion.
dehydroepiandrosterone : An androstanoid that is androst-5-ene substituted by a beta-hydroxy group at position 3 and an oxo group at position 17. It is a naturally occurring steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands.

Gonadal Agenesis: The complete failure of gonadal development.

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" The transectional or longitudinal study of the plasma levels of dehydroepiandrosterone, its sulfate (DHAS), delta 4-androstenedione, testosterone, and 170H-progesterone in 121 children with a variety of clinical disorders in which adrenarchal and gonadal maturations are dissociated (precocious adrenarche, precocious or delayed puberty, adrenal insufficiency, gonadal dysgenesis, hypogonadotropism hypogonadotrophic) is presented."3.66[Does adrenarche really play a determining role in pubertal development? A study of the dissociations between adrenarche and gonadarche. The failure of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate treatment in delayed adrenarche]. ( David, M; de Peretti, E; Forest, MG; Sempe, M, 1982)
"In patients with gonadal dysgenesis, echography may show 'residual gonads but coelioscopy remains necessary when results of radiologic investigation are negative, when clinical or hormonal data suggest that ovarian function is present."1.26[Echography in gonadal dysgenesis and ovarian dystrophy (author's transl)].
