dehydroepiandrosterone and Genetic Predisposition

dehydroepiandrosterone has been researched along with Genetic Predisposition in 7 studies

Dehydroepiandrosterone: A major C19 steroid produced by the ADRENAL CORTEX. It is also produced in small quantities in the TESTIS and the OVARY. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can be converted to TESTOSTERONE; ANDROSTENEDIONE; ESTRADIOL; and ESTRONE. Most of DHEA is sulfated (DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULFATE) before secretion.
dehydroepiandrosterone : An androstanoid that is androst-5-ene substituted by a beta-hydroxy group at position 3 and an oxo group at position 17. It is a naturally occurring steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Because of the elevated dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) levels in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the heritability of DHEAS serum levels, genes encoding the enzymes that control the sulfation of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) to DHEAS and vice versa are obvious candidate genes to explain part of the heritability of PCOS."3.79Variants in SULT2A1 affect the DHEA sulphate to DHEA ratio in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome but not the hyperandrogenic phenotype. ( de Jong, FH; Fauser, BC; Laven, JS; Louwers, YV; Stolk, L; Uitterlinden, AG; van Herwaarden, NA, 2013)
"Twenty-seven women with polycystic ovary syndrome and 28 of their sisters underwent an adrenocorticotropic hormone stimulation test with measurement of the steroids dehydroepiandrosterone, androstenedione, and cortisol 60 minutes later."3.74Correlation of adrenocorticotropin steroid levels between women with polycystic ovary syndrome and their sisters. ( Azziz, R; Goodarzi, MO; Guo, X; Stanczyk, FZ; Yildiz, BO, 2007)
