dehydroepiandrosterone and Depression, Endogenous

dehydroepiandrosterone has been researched along with Depression, Endogenous in 35 studies

Dehydroepiandrosterone: A major C19 steroid produced by the ADRENAL CORTEX. It is also produced in small quantities in the TESTIS and the OVARY. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can be converted to TESTOSTERONE; ANDROSTENEDIONE; ESTRADIOL; and ESTRONE. Most of DHEA is sulfated (DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE SULFATE) before secretion.
dehydroepiandrosterone : An androstanoid that is androst-5-ene substituted by a beta-hydroxy group at position 3 and an oxo group at position 17. It is a naturally occurring steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands.

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In recent years, a relationship between depression and basal dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) levels has frequently been suggested, but responses of these adrenal steroids to psychosocial stress have not been examined in individuals with depressive disorders."3.85Attenuated DHEA and DHEA-S response to acute psychosocial stress in individuals with depressive disorders. ( An, H; Chen, Y; Fu, M; Jiang, X; Xiao, Z; Zhang, Z; Zhong, W, 2017)
" Levels of the GABA(A)--antagonistic neurosteroids plasma dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulphate derivate, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS) may be relevant to depressive and anxiety disorders, including PTSD."3.70Elevated circulatory level of GABA(A)--antagonistic neurosteroids in patients with combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder. ( Gil-Ad, I; Kotler, M; Maayan, R; Mester, R; Shtaif, B; Spivak, B; Weizman, A, 2000)
