deferoxamine and Primary Peritonitis

deferoxamine has been researched along with Primary Peritonitis in 4 studies

Deferoxamine: Natural product isolated from Streptomyces pilosus. It forms iron complexes and is used as a chelating agent, particularly in the mesylate form.
desferrioxamine B : An acyclic desferrioxamine that is butanedioic acid in which one of the carboxy groups undergoes formal condensation with the primary amino group of N-(5-aminopentyl)-N-hydroxyacetamide and the second carboxy group undergoes formal condensation with the hydroxyamino group of N(1)-(5-aminopentyl)-N(1)-hydroxy-N(4)-[5-(hydroxyamino)pentyl]butanediamide. It is a siderophore native to Streptomyces pilosus biosynthesised by the DesABCD enzyme cluster as a high affinity Fe(III) chelator.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The aim of the study was to determine the effects of vitamin E and the iron chelating agent desferrioxamin (Dfx), supplemented by clindamycin and gentamycin therapy, on peritonitis caused by caecal ligation of a puncture wound in an experimental model."3.71The effects of desferrioxamin and vitamin E as supplements to antibiotics in the treatment of peritonitis in rats. "Hemoglobin (Hb) is a toxic molecule responsible for the extreme lethality associated with experimental Escherichia coli peritonitis, but the mechanism has yet to be elucidated."1.30Hemoglobin toxicity in experimental bacterial peritonitis is due to production of reactive oxygen species.
