creatine and Hypothyroidism

creatine has been researched along with Hypothyroidism in 26 studies

Hypothyroidism: A syndrome that results from abnormally low secretion of THYROID HORMONES from the THYROID GLAND, leading to a decrease in BASAL METABOLIC RATE. In its most severe form, there is accumulation of MUCOPOLYSACCHARIDES in the SKIN and EDEMA, known as MYXEDEMA. It may be primary or secondary due to other pituitary disease, or hypothalamic dysfunction.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Serum levels of creatine (CT), creatinine (CTN), urea, guanidinosuccinic acid (GSA), guanidinoacetic acid (GAA), guanidine (G), arginine (Arg), homoarginine (Harg), argininic acid (ArgA), and alpha-keto-delta-guanidinovaleric acid (alpha-K-delta-GVA) were measured in 54 patients with hyperthyroidism, 56 with subclinical hyperthyroidism, 28 with subclinical hypothyroidism, and 51 with hypothyroidism compared with 62 euthyroid controls."3.69Serum creatine, creatinine, and other guanidino compounds in patients with thyroid dysfunction. ( Abs, R; Berwaerts, J; De Deyn, PP; Mahler, C; Marescau, B; Neels, H; Verhelst, J, 1997)
"To evaluate the effects of thyroid hormones on the concentration of epidermal growth factor (EGF), we determined values for the immunoreactive EGF concentration in the urine (U-irEGF) of newborn infants with congenital hypothyroidism (N = 19), and in urine, saliva and serum of adult patients with hypothyroidism (N = 11) and hyperthyroidism (N = 8)."3.67Human epidermal growth factor concentrations in urine, but not in saliva and serum, depend on thyroid state. ( Mattila, AL; Perheentupa, J; Salmi, J; Viinikka, L, 1987)
