clonidine and Insulin Resistance

clonidine has been researched along with Insulin Resistance in 13 studies

Clonidine: An imidazoline sympatholytic agent that stimulates ALPHA-2 ADRENERGIC RECEPTORS and central IMIDAZOLINE RECEPTORS. It is commonly used in the management of HYPERTENSION.
clonidine (amino form) : A clonidine that is 4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-amine in which one of the amino hydrogens is replaced by a 2,6-dichlorophenyl group.

Insulin Resistance: Diminished effectiveness of INSULIN in lowering blood sugar levels: requiring the use of 200 units or more of insulin per day to prevent HYPERGLYCEMIA or KETOSIS.

Research Excerpts

"Our aim was to investigate whether insulin sensitivity, leptin, androgen or estradiol levels are associated with disturbed GH response to clonidine in lean patients with polycystic ovary syndrome."7.73Influence of leptin, androgens and insulin sensitivity on increased GH response to clonidine in lean patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. ( Capp, E; Comim, FV; D'Avila, A; Spritzer, PM, 2005)

( Babu, K; Mao, HZ; Marker, P; Rocchini, AJ; Rocchini, AP, 1999)
"The I1-imidazoline receptor is a specific high-affinity binding site corresponding to a functional cell-surface receptor mediating the antihypertensive actions of moxonidine and other second-generation centrally-acting agents, and may play a role in countering insulin resistance in an animal model of metabolic syndrome X."4.79The I1-imidazoline receptor: from binding site to therapeutic target in cardiovascular disease. "This study aimed to develop a novel type 2 diabetes model designated the HND (Horio-Niki diabetic) mouse, by transferring diabetogenic genes from wild castaneus mice (Mus musculus castaneus) captured in the Philippines into laboratory mice (C57BL/6J:B6)."1.33The HND mouse, a nonobese model of type 2 diabetes mellitus with impaired insulin secretion. ( Anunciado, RV; Horio, F; Imamura, T; Kobayashi, M; Namikawa, T; Niki, I; Teradaira, S, 2005)
"Only clonidine treatment totally prevented the development of insulin resistance, and high-dose aspirin, known to prevent insulin resistance by inhibition of the activity of IkappaB kinase-beta, decreased the degree of insulin resistance by almost 70%."1.32Hypertension and insulin resistance are not directly related in obese dogs. ( Gokee, A; Rocchini, AP; Yang, JQ, 2004)
