citalopram and Depression, Postpartum

citalopram has been researched along with Depression, Postpartum in 13 studies

Citalopram: A furancarbonitrile that is one of the serotonin uptake inhibitors used as an antidepressant. The drug is also effective in reducing ethanol uptake in alcoholics and is used in depressed patients who also suffer from TARDIVE DYSKINESIA in preference to tricyclic antidepressants, which aggravate dyskinesia.
citalopram : A racemate comprising equimolar amounts of (R)-citalopram and its enantiomer, escitalopram. It is used as an antidepressant, although only escitalopram is active.
1-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,3-dihydro-2-benzofuran-5-carbonitrile : A nitrile that is 1,3-dihydro-2-benzofuran-5-carbonitrile in which one of the hydrogens at position 1 is replaced by a p-fluorophenyl group, while the other is replaced by a 3-(dimethylamino)propyl group.

Depression, Postpartum: Depression in POSTPARTUM WOMEN, usually within four weeks after giving birth (PARTURITION). The degree of depression ranges from mild transient depression to neurotic or psychotic depressive disorders. (From DSM-IV, p386)

" Across pregnancy and postpartum, the mean dose-corrected plasma concentrations (L/D ratios) of S- and R-citalopram and S-sertraline, and the corresponding primary chiral metabolites S- and R-desmethylcitalopram and N-desmethylsertra-line were assessed."5.13Changes in antidepressant metabolism and dosing across pregnancy and early postpartum. "Citalopram treatment changed these behaviors in lactating mice with further reductions in immobility during the FST and decreased marble burying."1.42Enhanced responsiveness to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors during lactation. ( Benoit, SC; Gregerson, KA; Horseman, ND; Jury, NJ; McCormick, BA, 2015)
"During treatment of postpartum depression with antidepressant drugs, the mothers often strongly wish to continue breast-feeding although the long-term safety of exposing infants to low doses of antidepressants has not been established."1.31Citalopram and breast-feeding: serum concentration and side effects in the infant.
