chlorpropamide and Demyelinating Diseases

chlorpropamide has been researched along with Demyelinating Diseases in 1 studies

Chlorpropamide: A sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent used in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p277)
chlorpropamide : An N-sulfonylurea that is urea in which a hydrogen attached to one of the nitrogens is substituted by 4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl group and a hydrogen attached to the other nitrogen is substituted by propyl group. Chlorpropamide is a hypoglycaemic agent used in the treatment of type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification.

Demyelinating Diseases: Diseases characterized by loss or dysfunction of myelin in the central or peripheral nervous system.

"Chlorpropamide (CPM) has been reported to produce impaired water excretion due to the enhancement of renal vasopressin (ADH) action and/or due to centrally enhanced ADH release, but it is still unknown whether CPM gives rise to ADH release with a subsequent hyponatremia in diabetes mellitus (DM), which, in turn, causes an impairment of the central nervous system."7.69Chlorpropamide-induced ADH release, hyponatremia and central pontine myelinolysis in diabetes mellitus.
