chlorpropamide and Complications of Diabetes Mellitus

chlorpropamide has been researched along with Complications of Diabetes Mellitus in 49 studies

Chlorpropamide: A sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent used in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p277)
chlorpropamide : An N-sulfonylurea that is urea in which a hydrogen attached to one of the nitrogens is substituted by 4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl group and a hydrogen attached to the other nitrogen is substituted by propyl group. Chlorpropamide is a hypoglycaemic agent used in the treatment of type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus not responding to dietary modification.

"Chlorpropamide (CPM) has been reported to produce impaired water excretion due to the enhancement of renal vasopressin (ADH) action and/or due to centrally enhanced ADH release, but it is still unknown whether CPM gives rise to ADH release with a subsequent hyponatremia in diabetes mellitus (DM), which, in turn, causes an impairment of the central nervous system."7.69Chlorpropamide-induced ADH release, hyponatremia and central pontine myelinolysis in diabetes mellitus. ( Funyu, T; Kimura, T; Mori, T; Ohta, M; Ota, K; Sahata, T; Sato, K; Shoji, M; Sugimura, K; Yamamoto, T, 1995)
"A patient with severe idiopathic diabetes insipidus, complicated by diabetes mellitus, was first treated with a combination o clofibrate and chlorpropamide."7.66Treatment of diabetes insipidus complicated by diabetes mellitus with chlorpropamide and clofibrate. ( Manns, M; Meyer zum Büschenfelde, KH; Schneider, J, 1980)
"Ten patients with primary hyperparathyroidism were placed on a constant 30 mEq of calcium and 120 meq of sodium diet, and alterations in their calcium balance in response to standard oral doses of chlorpropamide were studied over a 4 day control period and a 4 day treatment period."7.66Chlorpropamide-induced changes in patients with hyperparathyroidism. "In view of the increasing incidence of primary hepatocellular carcinoma in western Europe and concern that this may in part be related to long-term use of drugs which cause hepatic microsomal enzyme induction, we undertook a comparison of long-term drug use in 105 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and equal numbers of age and sex-matched patients with colorectal tumours and with fractures of femur."1.27Diabetes mellitus and primary hepatocellular carcinoma.
