chlorpromazine and Chemical Dependence

chlorpromazine has been researched along with Chemical Dependence in 102 studies

Chlorpromazine: The prototypical phenothiazine antipsychotic drug. Like the other drugs in this class chlorpromazine's antipsychotic actions are thought to be due to long-term adaptation by the brain to blocking DOPAMINE RECEPTORS. Chlorpromazine has several other actions and therapeutic uses, including as an antiemetic and in the treatment of intractable hiccup.
chlorpromazine : A substituted phenothiazine in which the ring nitrogen at position 10 is attached to C-3 of an N,N-dimethylpropanamine moiety.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" We have pursued evidence for the existence and nature of discontinuation syndromes following neuroleptics through reports of difficulties following the use of dopamine blocking anti-emetics, the use of chlorpromazine to treat tuberculosis, the use of antidepressant-neuroleptic combinations in affective disorders, the occurrence of tardive syndromes and studies designed to establish the existence of discontinuation syndromes in schizophrenia."4.80Neuroleptic discontinuation syndromes. ( Healy, D; Tranter, R, 1998)
"Zolpidem has abuse potential, particularly among individuals with histories of drug abuse."1.35A therapeutic dose of zolpidem has limited abuse-like effects in drug-naïve females: a pilot study. ( Dunlap, S; Licata, SC; Lukas, SE; Penetar, DM, 2008)
"Maternal drug addiction has increased in an alarming way over the last ten years."1.28[Newborn infant of drug-addicted mother: maternal, perinatal, neonatal aspects, and neonatal abstinence syndrome]. ( Arcas Cruz, R; Comas Mastmitja, L; Cruz Hernández, M; Figueras Aloy, J; Jiménez González, R; Vilanova Juanola, JM, 1991)
"He developed oliguric acute renal failure soon after the burn injury, although adequate resuscitation therapy was given, and survived following frequent haemodialysis."1.27Survival from acute renal failure after severe burns. ( Momma, S; Nishida, S; Sawada, Y; Takamizawa, A, 1984)
"Mequitazine is a new phenothiazine derivative with potent antihistaminic activity developed by Pharmuka, Co."1.26[Studies on the barbital-type physical dependence liability of mequitazine in mice and rats (author's transl)]. ( Kaneto, H, 1981)
