carbachol and Sleep Apnea Syndromes

carbachol has been researched along with Sleep Apnea Syndromes in 4 studies

Carbachol: A slowly hydrolyzed CHOLINERGIC AGONIST that acts at both MUSCARINIC RECEPTORS and NICOTINIC RECEPTORS.

Sleep Apnea Syndromes: Disorders characterized by multiple cessations of respirations during sleep that induce partial arousals and interfere with the maintenance of sleep. Sleep apnea syndromes are divided into central (see SLEEP APNEA, CENTRAL), obstructive (see SLEEP APNEA, OBSTRUCTIVE), and mixed central-obstructive types.

"Obstructive sleep apnea is a common breathing problem that results in recurrent episodes of nighttime hypoxemia, hypercapnia, bradytachycardia, and hypertension, as well as sleep disturbance and daytime hypersomnolence."2.39Motor control of the pharyngeal musculature and implications for the pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea. ( Horner, RL, 1996)
" Considered together, the site-localization, pharmacologic blocking, and dose-response data support the hypothesis that specific regions of the mPRF can contribute to the long-recognized ability of morphine to inhibit REM sleep and alter respiratory control."1.28Sleep disruption and increased apneas after pontine microinjection of morphine.
