bisoprolol and Tetralogy of Fallot

bisoprolol has been researched along with Tetralogy of Fallot in 4 studies

Bisoprolol: A cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It is effective in the management of HYPERTENSION and ANGINA PECTORIS.

Tetralogy of Fallot: A combination of congenital heart defects consisting of four key features including VENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECTS; PULMONARY STENOSIS; RIGHT VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY; and a dextro-positioned AORTA. In this condition, blood from both ventricles (oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor) is pumped into the body often causing CYANOSIS.

Research Excerpts

" Thus, the effect of bisoprolol on clinical status and plasma cytokine concentrations in ACHD patients with right heart failure after surgical correction for Tetralogy of Fallot was investigated."5.13Beta-blockade does not alter plasma cytokine concentrations and ventricular function in young adults with right ventricular dysfunction secondary to operated congenital heart disease. ( Bahlmann, J; Beibei, L; Buchhorn, R; Geyer, S; Kuehne, T; Loppnow, H; Norozi, K; Raab, B; Werdan, K; Wessel, A, 2008)
"Our purpose was to evaluate the effect of a treatment over six months with bisoprolol on the surrogate parameters of N-Terminal-pro brain natriuretic peptide, subsequently to be described as brain natriuretic peptide, peak uptake of oxygen, and ventricular function assessed by magnetic resonance imaging in grown ups and adults who had undergone surgical correction of tetralogy of Fallot."5.12A prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial of beta-blockade in patients who have undergone surgical correction of tetralogy of Fallot. "Treatment with bisoprolol is recommended in symptomatic children and also improved symptoms in our patient."1.31Bisoprolol treatment for cyanotic spells--a 69-year-old female with uncorrected pentalogy of Fallot. ( Anders, HJ; Fuchshuber, S, 2001)
