betahistine and Absence Seizure

betahistine has been researched along with Absence Seizure in 2 studies

Betahistine: A histamine analog and H1 receptor agonist that serves as a vasodilator. It is used in MENIERE DISEASE and in vascular headaches but may exacerbate bronchial asthma and peptic ulcers.
betahistine : An aminoalkylpyridine that is pyridine substituted by a 2-(methylamino)ethyl group at position 2. It acts as a histamine agonist and a vasodilator, and is thought to improve the microcirculation of the labyrinth, resulting in reduced endolymphatic pressure. It is used (generally as the hydrochloride or mesylate salt) to reduce the symptoms of vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss associated with Meniere's disease.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Betahistine which has both H(3)-antagonistic activity and H(1)-agonistic activity significantly reduced ADD, albeit mild at a toxic dose, though seizure ranks were not affected."5.31Lack of substantial effect of the H(3)-antagonist thioperamide and of the non-selective mixed H(3)-antagonist/H(1)-agonist betahistine on amygdaloid kindled seizures. ( Noguchi, E; Tsuru, N; Yoshida, M, 2000)
"Recurrent seizures induce some cognitive problems, such as, depression, learning and memory deficits, and neurodegeneration."1.56Betahistine, prevents kindling, ameliorates the behavioral comorbidities and neurodegeneration induced by pentylenetetrazole.
