aztreonam and Atopic Hypersensitivity

aztreonam has been researched along with Atopic Hypersensitivity in 6 studies

Aztreonam: A monocyclic beta-lactam antibiotic originally isolated from Chromobacterium violaceum. It is resistant to beta-lactamases and is used in gram-negative infections, especially of the meninges, bladder, and kidneys. It may cause a superinfection with gram-positive organisms.
aztreonam : A synthetic monocyclic beta-lactam antibiotic (monobactam), used primarily to treat infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall, thereby blocking peptidoglycan crosslinking.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Despite treatment of the bronchospasm and readministration of the same dose of phenoxymethyl penicillin, wheezing recurred requiring stopping the desensitization procedure."1.28Successful use of aztreonam in a patient who failed oral penicillin desensitization. ( Finnerty, N; Loria, RC; Wedner, HJ, 1989)
"IgE or immediate hypersensitivity cross-reactivity between aztreonam (a monobactam) and penicillin was investigated, since this will be an important consideration when therapy is chosen."1.27Lack of cross-reactivity between aztreonam , a monobactam antibiotic, and penicillin in penicillin-allergic subjects.
