aspirin and Melena

aspirin has been researched along with Melena in 53 studies

Aspirin: The prototypical analgesic used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain. It has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties and acts as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase which results in the inhibition of the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. Aspirin also inhibits platelet aggregation and is used in the prevention of arterial and venous thrombosis. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p5)
acetylsalicylate : A benzoate that is the conjugate base of acetylsalicylic acid, arising from deprotonation of the carboxy group.
acetylsalicylic acid : A member of the class of benzoic acids that is salicylic acid in which the hydrogen that is attached to the phenolic hydroxy group has been replaced by an acetoxy group. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with cyclooxygenase inhibitor activity.

Melena: The black, tarry, foul-smelling FECES that contain degraded blood.

" We counted and trended reports to FAERS in which aspirin was associated with anaphylaxis or anaphylaxis followed by death."4.12Analysis of Adverse Reactions of Aspirin in Prophylaxis Medication Based on FAERS Database. ( Guo, Y; Ren, W; Wang, W, 2022)
"A comparison of aspirin and acetaminophen consumption in 346 matched pairs of patients with hematemesis and melena and general population control subjects has shown associations between intake of both drugs and bleeding."3.66Analgesic intake and the risk of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding. ( Coggon, D; Langman, MJ; Spiegelhalter, D, 1983)
"Approaches to the treatment of acute coronary syndrome in patients with thrombocytopenia might be better directed toward the evaluation of platelet function rather than toward absolute platelet count, and the risk-benefit equation of invasive procedures and antithrombotic therapies may need to incorporate this information."1.36Antiplatelet therapy and percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute coronary syndrome and thrombocytopenia. ( Bathina, JD; Daher, IN; Durand, JB; Iliescu, C; Yusuf, SW, 2010)
"Gastroduodenal ulcers were found in 94 (44%) of the patients; two thirds of the users and one third of the non-users."1.29[Use of acetylsalicylic acid and other antiphlogistics in hematemesis/melena]. ( Aabakken, L; Breckan, RK, 1994)
" However, because of the inability to augment iron absorption to compensate for blood loss, it would be inadvisable for the patient with a partial gastrectomy to take a high dosage of aspirin for long periods of time, unless aspirin-induced blood loss is measured and shown to be very low."1.25Role of occult blood loss in anaemia after partial gastrectomy. ( Baird, IM; Nasser, SS; St John, DJ, 1970)
