apnea and Multiple Sclerosis

apnea has been researched along with Multiple Sclerosis in 4 studies

Apnea: A transient absence of spontaneous respiration.

Multiple Sclerosis: An autoimmune disorder mainly affecting young adults and characterized by destruction of myelin in the central nervous system. Pathologic findings include multiple sharply demarcated areas of demyelination throughout the white matter of the central nervous system. Clinical manifestations include visual loss, extra-ocular movement disorders, paresthesias, loss of sensation, weakness, dysarthria, spasticity, ataxia, and bladder dysfunction. The usual pattern is one of recurrent attacks followed by partial recovery (see MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, RELAPSING-REMITTING), but acute fulminating and chronic progressive forms (see MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, CHRONIC PROGRESSIVE) also occur. Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"This study aimed to (1) evaluate in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) the presence of sleep disorders such as hypersomnia, fatigue, risk of apnea, and the presence of restless legs syndrome/Willis-Ekbom disease (RLS/WED); (2) evaluate quality of sleep in patients with MS and NMOSD; and (3) correlate them with clinical and imaging data."4.31Sleep in multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder-the SEMN study.
