androsterone and Hirsutism

androsterone has been researched along with Hirsutism in 54 studies

Hirsutism: A condition observed in WOMEN and CHILDREN when there is excess coarse body hair of an adult male distribution pattern, such as facial and chest areas. It is the result of elevated ANDROGENS from the OVARIES, the ADRENAL GLANDS, or exogenous sources. The concept does not include HYPERTRICHOSIS, which is an androgen-independent excessive hair growth.

"Urinary steroid fractionations of 17-ketosteroids were carried out in 3 normally-ovulating young women and in 2 women with hirsutism."7.66Effect of dexamethasone and ACTH on the secretion pattern of fractionated 17-ketosteroids in hirsutism. ( Gunasegaram, R, 1979)
"To evaluate the reliability of plasma androsterone glucuronide (ADTG) as a parameter of androgenicity at the target tissue level, we studied the origin of ADTG in women, by measuring the plasma conversion rate of different possible precursors as well as by measuring ADTG levels in ovariectomized women and women with Addison's disease."3.68Origin and significance of plasma androsterone glucuronide levels: a parameter of adrenal androgen secretion and hepatic 5 alpha-reductase activity. ( Giagulli, VA; Giorgino, R; Vermeulen, A, 1993)
"As in hyperandrogenicity there generally exists evidence for increased 5 alpha-reductase activity, we measured, as parameters of 5 alpha-reductase activity, plasma levels of 5 alpha-androstane-3 alpha,17 beta-diol glucuronide (ADG) and androsterone glucuronide (ADTG) as well as their precursor levels in obese women without hirsutism, obese hirsute women, non-obese hirsute women, and non-obese, non-hirsute women."3.68Increased free testosterone but normal 5 alpha-reduced testosterone metabolites in obese premenopausal women. ( Abbaticchio, G; Cignarelli, M; De Pergola, G; Giagulli, VA; Giorgino, F; Giorgino, R; Vermeulen, A, 1992)
"Urinary steroid fractionations of 17-ketosteroids were carried out in 3 normally-ovulating young women and in 2 women with hirsutism."3.66Effect of dexamethasone and ACTH on the secretion pattern of fractionated 17-ketosteroids in hirsutism. ( Gunasegaram, R, 1979)
" The classification of the anti-androgens, their indications, side-effects, dosage schemes and results of treatment are reviewed."2.36[Clinical aspects of the anti-androgens]. ( Holtzhausen, GH, 1979)
"Androsterone glucuronide was raised in all groups but was higher in patients with raised DHEAS."1.29Substrate dependency of C19 conjugates in hirsute hyperandrogenic women and the influence of adrenal androgen. ( Carmina, E; Gentzschein, E; Lobo, RA; Stanczyk, FZ, 1995)
"We hypothesized that because the treatment of hirsutism requires a prolonged duration, a longer observation period is required for changes in serum 3 alpha-androstanediol glucuronide to be measured."1.29Time-dependent changes in serum 3 alpha-androstanediol glucuronide correlate with hirsutism scores after ovarian suppression.
