Isolated hepatic mucormycosis in an immunocompetent child.
The American journal of gastroenterology, 1996, Volume: 91, Issue:3

A case of isolated localized hepatic mucormycosis in an immunocompetent 3 1/2-yr-old girl with concomitant acute toxoplasmosis is described. Mucormycosis is rare in immunocompetent patients, and hepatic mucormycosis has so far been described only in the context of disseminated disease. The infection resolved spontaneously without surgical debridement and/or appropriate medical therapy with amphotericen B.

Studies being conducted on opportunistic infections among people with HIV are presented in list form. The list includes new studies, those still in development, and those slated to begin in 1995. Areas of interest include candidiasis, cryptosporidiosis/microsporidiosis, cytomegalovirus (CMV), Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), toxoplasmosis, and tuberculosis (TB). Effect of amphotericin B on natural killer cell activity in vitro.
The Journal of antimicrobial chemotherapy, 1983, Volume: 11, Issue:3

Incubation of murine peritoneal and spleen natural killer cells with amphotericin B at concentrations of 2.5, 5 and 10 mg/l in vitro, resulted in depression of their tumoricidal activity which had been augmented in vivo by infection with Toxoplasma gondii. In contrast, amphotericin B at the same concentrations had little or no effect on spontaneous natural killer cell activity in vitro. These in-vitro data suggest amphotericin B may have adverse effects on natural killer cell function in vivo.
