amiodarone and Pre-Excitation Syndromes

amiodarone has been researched along with Pre-Excitation Syndromes in 12 studies

Amiodarone: An antianginal and class III antiarrhythmic drug. It increases the duration of ventricular and atrial muscle action by inhibiting POTASSIUM CHANNELS and VOLTAGE-GATED SODIUM CHANNELS. There is a resulting decrease in heart rate and in vascular resistance.
amiodarone : A member of the class of 1-benzofurans that is 1-benzofuran substituted by a butyl group at position 2 and a 4-[2-(diethylamino)ethoxy]-3,5-diiodobenzoyl group at position 3. It is a cardiovascular drug used for the treatment of cardiac dysrhythmias.

Pre-Excitation Syndromes: A group of conditions in which HEART VENTRICLE activation by the atrial impulse is faster than the normal impulse conduction from the SINOATRIAL NODE. In these pre-excitation syndromes, atrial impulses often bypass the ATRIOVENTRICULAR NODE delay and travel via ACCESSORY CONDUCTING PATHWAYS connecting the atrium directly to the BUNDLE OF HIS.

" Electrophysiologic data obtained before and during thyroxine replacement therapy showed that hypothyroidism lengthens the effective refractory period of the atria, AV node, bypass tract and His-Purkinje system (that in the ventricle not being measured); this lengthening resembles the effects of long-term administration of amiodarone."5.27Atrioventricular block complicating amiodarone-induced hypothyroidism in a patient with pre-excitation and rate-dependent bilateral bundle branch block. ( Brun, S; Gaita, F; Mangiardi, L; Nademanee, K; Presbitero, P; Singh, BN, 1986)
"Subgroups were also stratified by right bundle branch block and left bundle branch block, ejection fraction (EF) <30% and > or =30% to 40%, ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathy, amiodarone and placebo."2.70QRS duration and mortality in patients with congestive heart failure. ( Fisher, SG; Fletcher, RD; Iuliano, S; Karasik, PE; Singh, SN, 2002)
"During ventricular tachycardia (VT) elicited by cross-field stimulation, spiral-type excitations rotating around functional block lines (FBLs) were visualized."2.43Optical imaging of spiral waves: pharmacological modification of spiral-type excitations in a 2-dimensional layer of ventricular myocardium.
