amiodarone and Muscular Diseases

amiodarone has been researched along with Muscular Diseases in 9 studies

Amiodarone: An antianginal and class III antiarrhythmic drug. It increases the duration of ventricular and atrial muscle action by inhibiting POTASSIUM CHANNELS and VOLTAGE-GATED SODIUM CHANNELS. There is a resulting decrease in heart rate and in vascular resistance.
amiodarone : A member of the class of 1-benzofurans that is 1-benzofuran substituted by a butyl group at position 2 and a 4-[2-(diethylamino)ethoxy]-3,5-diiodobenzoyl group at position 3. It is a cardiovascular drug used for the treatment of cardiac dysrhythmias.

Muscular Diseases: Acquired, familial, and congenital disorders of SKELETAL MUSCLE and SMOOTH MUSCLE.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"The FDA revised the labels of amiodarone and simvastatin in 2002 to warn of increased risk of rhabdomyolysis, the most severe form of myopathy, when the 2 drugs are taken concomitantly in doses greater than 20 milligrams (mg) per day of simvastatin."3.76Results of a safety initiative for patients on concomitant amiodarone and simvastatin therapy in a Veterans Affairs medical center. ( Beckey, C; Hough, A; Karimi, S; Parra, D, 2010)
"One hundred two patients with recurrent, drug-refractory tachyarrhythmias were treated with amiodarone for nine +/- eight months (mean +/- SD) (range, one to 50 months)."3.67Unusual neurotoxicity associated with amiodarone therapy. ( Iyer, V; Meckler, RJ; Palakurthy, PR, 1987)
