aminolevulinic acid and Dermatomycoses

aminolevulinic acid has been researched along with Dermatomycoses in 8 studies

Aminolevulinic Acid: A compound produced from succinyl-CoA and GLYCINE as an intermediate in heme synthesis. It is used as a PHOTOCHEMOTHERAPY for actinic KERATOSIS.
5-aminolevulinic acid : The simplest delta-amino acid in which the hydrogens at the gamma position are replaced by an oxo group. It is metabolised to protoporphyrin IX, a photoactive compound which accumulates in the skin. Used (in the form of the hydrochloride salt)in combination with blue light illumination for the treatment of minimally to moderately thick actinic keratosis of the face or scalp.

Dermatomycoses: Superficial infections of the skin or its appendages by any of various fungi.

" PDT of onychomycosis (n = 380 patients) found treatment with methylene blue (MB) photosensitizer (PS) more efficacious with complete cure rates of 70 %-80 % than 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-PDT (mycological cure rates of 17 %-57 %) and methyl aminolevulinate (MAL)-PDT (mycological cure rate of 32 %)."5.05Photodynamic therapy treatment of superficial fungal infections: A systematic review. " Antifungal agents have been the primary approach to treat such infections; however, adverse hepatotoxic reactions may require discontinuation of the long-term use of antifungal agents in patients with pre-existing liver diseases."1.91Surgery plus photodynamic therapy for a diabetic patient with cutaneous infectious granuloma caused by Curvularia lunata.
