[Local proteinase inhibitor concentration in uterine secretions with intrauterine spirals (IUD) in situ (proceedings)].
    Archiv fur Gynakologie, 1977, Jul-29, Volume: 224, Issue:1-4

A study to determine the etiology of bleeding in women who use IUDs is reported. Alpha 1 - anttrypsin (AT) and alpha 1x antichymotrypsin (ACT) levels in serum samples and endometrial secretions were measured in 30 women before and after IUD insertion. The ACT level remained unchanged after IUD insertion. AT in the serum remained unchanged, but the levels in the endometrial secretions sank to a low point 2 months after insertion but rose to levels slightly above insertion levels after 6 months. The local application of proteinase inhibitors could therefore be used to treat bleeding which occurs after IUD insertions.
