alanine and Barrett Esophagus

alanine has been researched along with Barrett Esophagus in 2 studies

Alanine: A non-essential amino acid that occurs in high levels in its free state in plasma. It is produced from pyruvate by transamination. It is involved in sugar and acid metabolism, increases IMMUNITY, and provides energy for muscle tissue, BRAIN, and the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM.
alanine : An alpha-amino acid that consists of propionic acid bearing an amino substituent at position 2.

Barrett Esophagus: A condition with damage to the lining of the lower ESOPHAGUS resulting from chronic acid reflux (ESOPHAGITIS, REFLUX). Through the process of metaplasia, the squamous cells are replaced by a columnar epithelium with cells resembling those of the INTESTINE or the salmon-pink mucosa of the STOMACH. Barrett's columnar epithelium is a marker for severe reflux and precursor to ADENOCARCINOMA of the esophagus.

"Using PCR based restriction fragment length polymorphism and single strand conformational polymorphism, we determined single nucleotide exchanges in the p16 and cyclin D1 genes among 56 esophageal adenocarcinomas (ADC) arising in Barrett's esophagus, 95 cardiac gastric ADC, and in 191 distal gastric ADC."7.73Polymorphism of p16 INK4A and cyclin D1 in adenocarcinomas of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
