adrenic acid and Adrenoleukodystrophy

adrenic acid has been researched along with Adrenoleukodystrophy in 2 studies

adrenic acid: RN given refers to cpd without isomeric designation

Adrenoleukodystrophy: An X-linked recessive disorder characterized by the accumulation of saturated very long chain fatty acids in the LYSOSOMES of ADRENAL CORTEX and the white matter of CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. This disease occurs almost exclusively in the males. Clinical features include the childhood onset of ATAXIA; NEUROBEHAVIORAL MANIFESTATIONS; HYPERPIGMENTATION; ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY; SEIZURES; MUSCLE SPASTICITY; and DEMENTIA. The slowly progressive adult form is called adrenomyeloneuropathy. The defective gene ABCD1 is located at Xq28, and encodes the adrenoleukodystrophy protein (ATP-BINDING CASSETTE TRANSPORTERS).

"The metabolism of the C22 unsaturated fatty acids erucic acid (22:1(n-9)), adrenic acid (22:4(n-6)), docosapentaenoic acid (22:5(n-3)) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6(n-3)) was studied in cultured fibroblasts from patients with acyl-CoA oxidase deficiency, the Zellweger syndrome, X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) and normal controls."3.68Peroxisomal beta-oxidation of polyunsaturated long chain fatty acids in human fibroblasts. The polyunsaturated and the saturated long chain fatty acids are retroconverted by the same acyl-CoA oxidase.
